The Copywriter & Content Specialist is the hands-on lead writer and content owner accountable for brand-aligned, revenue-generating communications that engage, inform, and equip agency partners and sales teams. The role translates product value into high-converting copy and scalable messaging frameworks that move prospects and customers from interest to quote, bind, and renewal. Owning the narrative across agent touchpoints to turn value propositions into clear offers, headlines, CTAs, and objection handling that prompt immediate action. Partnering closely with Sales, Product, Marketing, Underwriting, and Compliance, it delivers clear, compliant communications and field-ready assets tailored to appetite, pricing, and state-specific requirements. It also sets and stewards voice and tone, maintains templates and disclosures, ensures accessibility, and drives consistency across channels and markets. Grounded in analytics, the Copywriter & Content Specialist uses testing and performance insights to ship rapid iterations that remove friction, increase quote starts, lift quote-to-bind conversion, grow cross-sell and retention, and improve efficiency. The outcome is a repeatable, compliant content engine that scales impact, accelerates sales velocity, and supports profitable, sustainable growth.

The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.

Responsibilities

Content Creation & Management

  • Design, write, edit, and curate high-quality content and resources for agency and sales channels, including but not limited to agent bulletins, newsletters, announcements, presentations, scripts, toolkits, field updates, and campaign materials.
  • Produce high-converting copy for all agent communication needs.
  • Ensure all communications are tailored, engaging, and relevant for diverse audiences within sales and agency channels; maintain an editorial calendar and content library for easy reuse.

Strategic Messaging & Positioning

  • Develop and maintain robust messaging frameworks, value propositions, and segment-specific positioning that support business objectives, product launches, campaigns, and change initiatives.
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of Mercury’s product offerings, risk appetite, eligibility, and state nuances across lines of business, ensuring content reflects strong business acumen and strategic alignment.
  • Build clear offer strategies, headlines, CTAs, and objection handling that increase quotes, binds, and multi-policy adoption.
  • Act as a key point of contact for content consultation; train and enable field teams on messaging and tools to ensure consistent adoption and impact.

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Collaborate closely with field teams, marketing, compliance, product, and other cross-functional partners to gather insights, ensure message alignment, and adapt content to meet evolving business needs.
  • Champion unified communications and ensure message cohesion across channels and markets.

 

Quality & Compliance

  • Uphold brand integrity, clarity, and risk awareness in every communication; steward voice and tone standards, templates, and disclosures.
  • Ensure accessibility and plain-language best practices; manage legal, regulatory, and organizational compliance with audit-ready version control and approvals.

 

Performance Analysis & Optimization

  • Monitor content engagement and effectiveness using analytics and stakeholder feedback.
  • Leverage data-driven insights to optimize messaging, enhance impact, and support an ongoing culture of innovation in content strategy.
  • Run A/B and multivariate tests; use heatmaps, session replays, and funnel analytics to identify friction and ship rapid copy iterations.

Qualifications

Education

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, Business, or equivalent experience.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

Experience

Minimum:

  • 3+ years of direct-response copywriting and content strategy for performance growth (B2C or B2B2C), with a portfolio showing measurable lifts in conversion and revenue.
  • Deep P&C insurance knowledge (personal lines and state-by-state nuances), with the ability to tailor copy by appetite, geography, and channel.
  • Exceptional persuasive writing, editing, and positioning skills; strong project and stakeholder management.
  • Compliance and risk awareness: accurate disclosures, recordkeeping, and audit-ready review processes.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills to train field teams on messaging and assets.
  • Proven ability to elevate brand and drive business outcomes in sales/agent-facing channels.

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting change management or product launches through messaging.

Working knowledge of digital marketing tools and content analytics.

Skills & Abilities

Minimum:

  • Direct-response copywriting that drives acquisition, cross-sell, retention, and renewals; portfolio showing measurable conversion/revenue lift.
  • Ability to translate complex insurance concepts into clear, action-oriented copy while maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Messaging architecture: value propositions, positioning, benefit/feature mapping, and objection handling for agent and consumer audiences.
  • Sales enablement writing: playbooks, talk tracks, rebuttals, competitive battlecards, proposals, and agent email sequences.
  • UX and microcopy for quote flows and forms that reduce friction and clarify disclosures and next steps.
  • Strong editing/proofreading, voice and tone stewardship, plain-language writing, and accessibility fundamentals.

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with content management systems, email marketing platforms, and digital analytics tools.
  • Creative thinking and willingness to pilot new approaches and content formats.
  • Project and workflow management: prioritization, intake, calendars, deadlines, and version control in a fast-paced environment.
